Participation & Pathway

City Kickers and City Juniors:

This is the first step on our player development pathway for boys and girls alike. Sessions are ideal for players starting their football journey or those looking for extra football practice who do not play for a team. Each session has a theme or topic to ensure that players are learning and developing new skills each week, whilst being fun, enjoyable, and engaging for all players.

City Kickers is for ages 5-8, and runs every Saturday during term time 9-10am at York Sport Village, which leads to City Juniors for ages 9-12, running 10-11am every Saturday during term time at York Sport Village.

City Development Centre:

The Development Centre is the next stage for players excelling in the City Kickers and City Juniors sessions, and is by invitation or successful trial only, for players aged 6–15. These sessions offer a more focused development plan, in line with our Player Pathway syllabus. The aim is to nurture players to fulfil their potential, in an advanced setting, whilst enabling them to continue training and playing for local grassroots teams. Training is weekly and whilst there is no formal games programme, regular matches are arranged to provide opportunities for developing the skills they are learning and having the opportunities that playing as a team provide.

Performance Squads:

YCFC Foundation Performance Squads were created to bridge the gap between Grassroots and Academy Football. The sessions follow a clear syllabus with defined themes and focuses, ensuring that players progress in a consistent manner, with teams offered from U9 to U12.

There is a player-centred holistic approach with the aim of developing not only the whole player but the person, with consideration given to communication skills, building relationships, taking ownership and team building through being part of a team.

This is an invite only programme following successful trial, and requires season long commitment to the team. Training takes place weekly and teams represent the Foundation in the Junior Premier league with a full games programme playing on Saturdays, with the focus being on development and not necessarily winning games.
